Malta

So, at the end of April, I took to the skies again and headed to Malta. All the chat of busy airports, check in early scared me too so I paid for Fastrack at Gatwick North ( EasyJet) it was a breeze, I even treated myself to the EasyJet gateway lounge which was a lovely start to my trip .

Having not been to Malta and knowing there are many different areas I listened to my companions – we wanted to be near bars and restaurants , a small beach and accessible to Valletta. We also wanted a 2 bedroom hotel so we could all be together, and we had a budget so St JULIANS was the destination that reached our specifications. The BE Hotel was in a great location and if you were young and wanted to be awake until the early hours or come in after 3am it was perfect at the weekend, but we were celebrating our 50th ( not old I know) but it was just a bit too noisy and full of students and the odd stag / rugby tourers. Plenty of nightlife , some nice restaurants and some very nice 5-star hotels around so you can go to another bar/hotel and have a little bit of sophistication which was a big plus. I would say however that our hotel was clean , cooked a good breakfast, had a nice roof top pool and the staff were lovely.

On Saturday we headed to Valletta. A number 14 bus takes 40 mins max and for £1.50 you arrive in Valletta – Valletta is simply wow wow wow…………………..beautiful buildings , history , fountains , bars ,shops and boutiques,  Michelin starred restaurants , local restaurants – we loved it , so much we ate lunch there – took a taxi back later in the day (£16.00) washed, relaxed and took a taxi back for the evening. We ate at a wonderful restaurant that was in a cave that emerged onto a lovely terrace , we were lucky to encounter the best fire work display I have seen for ages due to the summer fiesta that was starting on the 01 May.

During my short visit we walked numerous times around Valletta we passed the lovely area of Sliema which I would say is best for coastal walks and people watching but there may have had more – I didn’t have a chance to stop as such and according to a very informative taxi driver – Bugibba is great for families and all-inclusive hotels .

Sunday was a day trip in the rain sadly to Gozo and Comino Islands – Gozo is a lovely little place the history and Ciutadella was gorgeous – Due to the weather we did not get to see the lagoons, but I would highly recommend this day trip.

All in all , Malta was great fun, very easy to wander around, people were very nice, and I shall definitely return.

If you are interested in taking a visit please give us a call.
