As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself less inclined to spend hours stretched out on a sunbed. I get bored, restless and always think I should be doing something. But not here.
From the moment I arrived at Nana Princess, a luxurious boutique resort in Crete with just 107 rooms, suites, and villas, I felt something different. Every room boasts sea views and mine - a junior suite - came with a private plunge pool, ambient lighting and a sleek music system (which, I admit, took me a good 48 hours to figure out!)
The staff are, without question, the standout feature of this resort. Their genuine warmth, constant smiles and intuitive service made everything feel seamless. Breakfast was an absolute pleasure - an abundant American-style buffet alongside a fresh à la carte menu, served with endless offers of tea and coffee.
On Wednesday evening, we dined at the hotel’s elegant Meat-In Point restaurant. With a chic atmosphere and a focus on quality, it delivered in every way - luxury steaks cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. A truly indulgent experience without having to leave the hotel.
On Thursday, we ventured into Hersonissos, just a short drive from the hotel. It’s a vibrant, lively town full of shops, patisseries and beachside restaurants with plenty of dining options nestled further into the town as well. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs, clothing or simply something you forgot to pack, Hersonissos has it all. It made for a fun and easy outing, adding a burst of local life to the calm of the resort.
By Friday, something wonderful happened - I couldn’t wait to plonk myself down in front of the sea under my own gazebo and Balinese-style lounger. I read, I napped, I let the sound of the waves lull me into that rare state of true relaxation. It was bliss.
That evening, I took a short €10 taxi ride to Stalis. Yes, there is a bus however with the sun still blazing and time ticking on, the taxi made sense. Stalis is a typical resort town - souvenir shops, car rentals, a bit of hustle - but it’s set along a gorgeous sandy beach with smart beachfront bars and restaurants serving reasonably priced cocktails and good food. A lovely change of pace.
Saturday night was a true highlight. I dined at Eternal Blue, Nana Princess’s gorgeous seaside fish restaurant. The setting is magical - waves gently lapping just beyond the terrace as I savoured a tender octopus starter, followed by a perfectly grilled seabream with seasonal vegetables. A crisp glass of white wine, selected from their extensive international wine list, rounded it off beautifully. It was as relaxing as it was elegant.
Our final evening was spent on the rooftop bar, where a live singer charmed us with a few iconic tunes while we sipped our nightcaps under the stars. A perfect way to end a perfect stay.
Now, as I prepare to leave on Sunday, I feel genuinely sad - but mostly just grateful. These four days have given me space, peace, great food and the kind of rest you don’t always expect to find on holiday.
Whether you’re after true downtime, excellent dining or discreet luxury with thoughtful service, Nana Princess delivers it all.
For those looking for a very good all inclusive option with a bit more going on, their sister hotel, Nana Golden is a great choice.
