We recently spent a week in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and it was every bit as beautiful as we had hoped. From the moment we arrived, the combination of spectacular scenery, fascinating history and wonderful food made it a destination that really stayed with us.
A big part of the enjoyment was knowing everything had been so expertly arranged by Janaway Travel. They did an excellent job organising the trip, from our flights and accommodation to the experiences and excursions, making the whole holiday feel wonderfully easy and seamless.
We stayed at the Rixos Premium Dubrovnik, which was fantastic. Our room was spacious and contemporary, the service was excellent and breakfast quickly became one of the highlights of each morning. The hotel’s coastal setting was another major plus, with incredible views stretching across the Adriatic.
And then there’s Dubrovnik itself. It is genuinely stunning, with what seems like a postcard-perfect view around every corner. We were blessed with beautiful weather throughout our stay, although it certainly got hot!
For us, the real highlight was exploring Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Walking the ancient city walls was an unforgettable experience, combining fascinating history with breathtaking views over the terracotta rooftops and sparkling Adriatic. Be warned, though – there are a lot of steps! For that reason, we felt Dubrovnik was particularly well suited to couples and sightseeing holidays rather than families with very young children.
We also took the opportunity to explore beyond Croatia, with day trips to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kotor in Montenegro. Mostar was both beautiful and thought-provoking, while one of our favourite moments in Montenegro was visiting Our Lady of the Rocks, set in the bay near Perast.
Food and drink in Dubrovnik can be expensive, although we found prices broadly comparable with London. Our favourite meal was at Azur Dubrovnik, which we would happily recommend.
We absolutely loved Croatia and would return to Dubrovnik in a heartbeat. With its extraordinary history, dramatic coastline, beautiful architecture and unforgettable scenery, it is a truly special destination – and one that Janaway Travel made wonderfully easy for us to discover.
