Germany doesn’t always shout about itself as a holiday destination but perhaps that’s part of its charm. Having already explored Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt, I was delighted to discover Baden-Baden, an elegant little town with plenty to offer.
And yes, it really is called Baden-Baden. So good they named it twice, as the saying goes!
Easy to explore on foot, the town is known for its beautiful architecture, historic streets and relaxed atmosphere. Recognised as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrating Europe’s great spa towns, Baden-Baden has a fascinating history and a few must-see attractions. Make time for the famous thermal baths, the theatre and the rather magnificent Casino.
Getting there is straightforward too. A direct Ryanair flight from Stansted to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport takes around an hour and ten minutes, making this an appealing choice for a short European break. On arrival, you’ll find pretty streets, impressive buildings and the magnificent Black Forest just beyond the town.
There’s an immediate sense of calm about Baden-Baden. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely stroll, exploring the shops or heading out into the surrounding countryside, it’s a destination that encourages you to slow down and take a breath. Just what the doctor ordered.
A stay at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa
At the heart of the town sits Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, part of the renowned Oetker Collection. From the moment you arrive, the welcome is warm and personal, with attentive staff who make you feel more like a friend than a hotel guest.
The beautiful floral arrangements in the lobby set the scene, while the food and breakfast are excellent. Bedrooms combine classic elegance with thoughtful details, and views across the hotel’s own park provide a lovely reminder of the greenery that makes this part of Germany so appealing.
Brenners is a hotel with a real sense of occasion, yet it never feels stuffy. It’s the perfect base from which to enjoy Baden-Baden, whether your plans involve exploring the town or spending an afternoon unwinding in the spa.
Time to press pause
If you’re looking for a break from a busy life, Baden-Baden deserves a place on your list. Think walks through the Black Forest, fresh air, thermal waters, cultural discoveries and a restorative spa treatment or two.
Baden-Baden and Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa make a wonderful combination for a luxurious European escape. Sometimes, you don’t need to travel far to feel a world away from everyday life.
We always love to hear from you so get in touch to chat about your next escape.
