Janes Journey to St Lucia

WOW...................5 nights of paradise that felt like a week.

The hotel I was fortunate to visit and stay for 5 nights was the Viceroy Sugar Beach formally known as the Jalousie Plantation. This hotel is set in its own rainforest to one side with the famous Pitons on the other.

I stayed in one of the Sugar Mill rooms which were stunning with an outside garden with small plunge pool (more dipping) adjacent to the rainforest and a upstairs sunbathing / balcony area, you also get your own butler who will take care of all your needs , questions and will pack and un pack if you wish.

The beach is soft white sand with a separate coral protected area great for snorkelling. The hotel will also take you round the island on various trips on one of their speed boats or you can meet Randolph who as his own boat and for 20$ will take you just around mountain to the former Capital Soufriere where a local guide Dennis will meet and walk you round giving you its history and making a stop at the local supermarket to stock up.

The other room categories I saw were nestled up into plantation once again with beautiful views of the glorious fauna and the sea in the distance.

The hotel offers breakfast in the downstairs of the Great Room in the main house and lunch is easy in the beach front restaurant or bar snacks are widely available both at the beach, round the pool or in the restaurant itself. The Great room restaurant as a decadence of old colonial England. There is also the cane bar for a cocktail or 2 in the evening with a large choice of sushi for those wanting a change or you can just go the beach bar for a more relaxed tipple or 2 before dinner. ( which I did on more than one occasion).

Now you may say such a long way to go for a short stay but the flights work well and the place is so quiet, relaxed and the staff are so attentive without being in your face that you immediately chill out.
The hotel runs a kids club offering a varied programme although my children were not with me on this trip I did speak with another 10 year old who told me it was awesome.

The hotels prices for a beautiful 5 star in the most gorgeous of settings are really good and will not break the bank. In a nutshell when I feel the need to relax, swim and be pampered I will return.
